Arrival in Lima Generates Expectation
Carlos Villagrán arrived in the Peruvian capital to showcase his circus performance, sparking excitement among local fans of the classic series. The timing coincided with the presence of former cast members María Antonieta de las Nieves and Edgar Vivar, who are also touring the country, fueling speculation about a potential reunion.
Direct Rejection of Meeting
When questioned by a local entertainment program about the possibility, Villagrán expressed his position clearly.
“Yo no me junto con esa chusma. Ellos tienen sus motivos, sus razones, los respeto a todos, pero no”, declaró.
His words not only dismissed the reunion speculation but also indicated ongoing tensions with his former colleagues.
Media Pressure Not Enough
The actor emphasized that neither public interest nor media pressure would alter his decision.
“Los periodistas yo sé que quieren que nos juntemos otra vez, pero si no se da, no se da”, remató.
This statement closed the door to any collaboration or reconciliation during his stay.
Contrasting Positions from Other Cast Members
While Villagrán maintained a firm stance, other actors expressed openness. Edgar Vivar mentioned having learned about Villagrán’s presence in Peru only upon arrival:
“Sabía que María Antonieta iba a venir porque también vive en México y mantengo contacto con ella. Carlos Villagrán vive fuera de México, y recién cuando llegué aquí supe que iba a estar. Esa es una coincidencia maravillosa, y ojalá pudiéramos reunirnos, pero las agendas están complicadas”.
María Antonieta de las Nieves indicated willingness to gather with some former colleagues:
“No creo. A los tres juntos sí creo, a Edgar, a Kiko y a mí sí”.
Her comments showed a more conciliatory approach compared to Villagrán’s firm rejection.
Longstanding Tensions Explained
The divisions among El Chavo del 8 actors date back many years. Villagrán left the show in 1978 to develop his own project featuring the character Quico following disagreements with Roberto Gómez Bolaños about creative control and direction. He attributed his departure to “celos y envidia” regarding Quico’s popularity.
De las Nieves became involved in a significant legal dispute when she registered the rights to her character in 1995, a conflict that lasted over ten years. Edgar Vivar has generally attempted to remain neutral in the controversies while maintaining cordial relations despite the growing distance among former cast members.
