Healthcare Coordination for Oncology Services

The PRIS Oncology Division has implemented a system to guarantee timely medication delivery for cancer patients across public healthcare institutions. According to department head Dr. Luisa Medina, this initiative involves continuous collaboration with hospitals and oncology services to ensure treatment availability.

Operational Framework and Auditing Process

Through rigorous auditing of medical facilities, the division monitors medication distribution efficiency while working with healthcare professionals who provide medical prescriptions. When necessary, the unit facilitates both medication procurement and direct delivery to patients.

Public Health Significance and Coverage Details

“This is fundamental for Public Health since cancer ranks as the second leading cause of global mortality, and rapid access to oncological care is crucial for enhancing patient quality of life,” emphasized Dr. Medina. The program requires patients to meet specific criteria: public healthcare attendance, lack of private insurance coverage, and confirmed chemotherapy requirements approved by treating specialists. All treatments are fully funded by the Ministry of Public Health under Dr. Luis Medina Ruiz’s leadership.

Targeted Treatments and Patient Statistics

“The medication is allocated for various cancer types including leukemia, lymphomas, with breast, prostate, colorectal, lung, and cervical cancers being the most prevalent. Notably, during the first semester, 1,200 patients were recorded and approximately 2,500 treatments were approved throughout the province,” was the detailed report from the department representative.
